I
have always been intrigued by puzzles. Several years after
displaying my kinetic resin sculptures in the Spoleto Festival
USA 1979, I began designing ciphers that use symbols to represent
letters. In 2001 I did my first Gothic puzzle featuring
one of my favorite island locations - Ocracoke, NC. I wanted
a distinctive way to remember the different venues and a unique
format to impart a personal message. I wanted people to
look at the imaging from two totally different perspectives. This
design led to further refinements and ways to create different
puzzle pieces.
These
memories, as you will see, can be developed in many ways. The
Gothic element, my trademark, can be incorporated to impart your
personal hidden message. These
compilations are designed to capture a person's memories - their
loves, their loses, their successes. Or they can reflect
history. They represent a point or points in time. The
puzzle theme symbolizes life's complexities.
If
a design is a solo commission, I consider the print an Original
Giclée. The print is done on the finest archival
paper or canvas* and has a Display Permanence Rating of over
145 years. All electronic files are delivered to the client with
the print. Photographs
can be supplied by the client or they can be taken by the artist. Pricing
depends on many factors including the number of images, overall
size, type of puzzle pieces, whether a Gothic addition will be
incorporated, imaging (digital, scanned, photography), the print
medium, etc. Please contact me
to discuss your special Puzzle or Gothic Memory. Click
on each graphic and read it's caption for a more detailed explanation.
*Canvas
prints are done on a matt surface. Subtle details are not easily
distinguishable on a glossy canvas.

Giclée
Printing
Giclée
printing provides for the highest quality fine art graphics with
rich, vibrant colors in the tradition of original stone lithography.
Many
museums have mounted exhibitions or purchased giclées
for their permanent collections. These include the Guggenheim
(New York), the Philadelphia Museum, the Butler Institute (Youngstown,
OH), the National Museum of Mexico, the Corcoran (DC), the Museum
of Fine Arts (Boston), the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts
(DC), The Metropolitan Museum (New York), the Smithsonian Institution
Libraries, the New York Public Library Graphic Collection, the
California Museum of Photography, the Walker Art Center, the
San Jose Museum, and the High Museum (Atlanta). There are many
others.

The Limited
Edition canvas prints are signed and numbered using
an acid free, pigmented ink that is archival quality, lightfast,
waterproof, and fade proof. The paper prints are signed
and numbered using a pencil. The prints are then coated
with PremierArt Print Shield.
Pricing
estimate for a one off, Original
Gothic Giclée: This
is only a pricing scenario using the Churchill Downs Gothic
(20" x 26"). Each piece has to be priced
individually. That graphic has 30 images that were
taken with a digital camera, so there was no scanning required.
It was printed on archival canvas and sealed using PremierArt
Print Shield. Your personal design would cost $2,625 not
including Shipping & Handling. That assumes all
photos and captions (if used) can be delivered via CD or
upload and limited retouching is necessary. Contact me about your Puzzle Memory.
